Smartphones have come a long way these past few years. The relentless development of hardware has been matched with equal fervour on the software side. Today we do things we never imagined were possible on a smartphone, thanks in no small measure to the huge advancements made both in hardware and software.
Any comparison between Android One, Android Go and Stock android would be futile because each exists for a specific purpose. Stock Android is exclusively for Devices made by Google right now mainly Pixel ranges of cell phones where Google signs of on the hardware specs of the smartphone. Android One is a service for manufacturers where Google develops updates for the specific phone models for a period of time and shares it with the manufacturers who in turn push it to the users. This is mainly done because manufacturers may have expertise in manufacturing and assembling cell phones but not in software. Here the responsibility for the software updates lies with Google for a period pre decided with the manufacturer. Android Go is a lite version of Android specifically developed to enhance the Android experience and devices which are built to service the lower end of the cell phone spectrum.

Android too has made this journey. From being a Open Source Program (still is) to now one of the world’s most used mobile operating systems, leaving in its wake other mobile operating systems like Windows Mobile, Palm, Blackberry etc., I still remember the first Android cell phone I purchased, a HTC G1 and since then I have avidly followed every flavours that android has had to offer. I can’t help it as the names are so tempting and believe me so were all the Android versions.
Since android is an Open Source Program, there were a lot many devices and manufacturers to choose from and many Lollipops, Marshmallow’s, Nougats’, Oreo’s, Cupcake’s, Donut’s, Eclair’s later Google realised that even though it had been pushing updates significantly advancing the capabilities and security features of the Android operating system. The manufacturers who were mostly OEMs were unable to release these features for the general users which had led to huge fragmentation and was a big let down to us the faithfully who waited eagerly for each release.Any comparison between Android One, Android Go and Stock android would be futile because each exists for a specific purpose. Google introduced the Nexus range of devises enabling users for the first time to experience android along with software updates as and when they were released. In 2016, Google discontinued the Nexus devices and introduced the Pixel devices that ran stock Android. Stock Android is available only for Pixel devices. Any updates, changes or bug fixes are directly given from Google to the devices.
Android One:
In 2014 Google introduced the Android One program for low end devices. Android One was first rolled out in India followed by other South Asian countries. Google partnered with Micromax & Karbonn to release the first Android One devices. Since Google faced certain glitches during this phase they later on partnered with OEMs such as Xiaomi & Motorola. Xiaomi & Motorola got Android One program to mid‐range and higher mid‐range devices. The most recent addition to the list of OEMs offering Android One devices is Nokia. With the Android One program Google offers software services along with guaranteed updates for a certain amount of time to OEMs who build their own hardware. Google gives updates to OEMs and they in turn push these updates to their handsets.
Android Go:
Google introduced Android Go with the same core objectives as that of Android One’s and that is to make it lite and simple for low‐end devices. This time Google has baked (low-calories) apps specifically for Android Go devices such as the Google Go that’s the search app, Map Go and YouTube Go that utilises very less memory and resources on the phone.
Android One and Android Go are great initiatives by Google to enhance the overall user experience on low‐end, mid‐range and higher mid‐range devices.
