The Redmi series has been the core reason for Xiaomi to lead the Indian market in terms of overall sales. The Redmi phones are known to be the budget king phones that deliver best features & brilliant performance for an affordable price. Redmi 2 was the first one that I bought and it was hands down one of the few affordable phones to have a 720p display, a Snapdragon 410 processor and an awesome 8 MP camera.
The Redmi 6 Pro is again a great phone that retails at around Rs 11,500 for the 3 GB RAM & 32 GB internal storage variant and Rs 13,499 for the 4 GB RAM & 64 GB internal storage variant. It has a 5.84" IPS LCD screen with 2280x1080p FHD+ resolution and 19:9 aspect ratio. The colors are great, the screen is sharp and bright. The phone is powered by the very reliable and trusted Snapdragon 625 processor and Adreno 506 GPU. It has a dual SIM tray with a MicroSD card slot that supports up to 256 GB.
In the front the phone has a 5.84" full HD+ display with 19:9 aspect ratio. The colours are good and the screen is sharp and bright. The front has a notch that houses the front facing camera that helps in face unlock that by the way works really great in well lit conditions. It also has the speaker grill and sensors. This time at the bottom on the chin you have the LED Notification light. In the back you see the antenna bands, the dual camera set up along with the LED flash and the fingerprint sensor in a center that's very reliable. And at the bottom you see the Mi branding.
At the bottom you have the micro USB port the down firing speaker grill and the primary microphone grill. On the top you have the 3.5 mm audio jack the infrared port and the secondary microphone. And on the sides you have the power button, the volume rocker and the dual sim slot that houses the MicroSD card slot.
The phone looks absolutely stunning, specially in Red. I love the way companies are making budget phones look premium. The screen has narrow bezels, small chin and a notch that makes the phone look upmarket. The Snapdragon 625 does a great job to keep everything smooth for most of the times unless MIUI decides to give the phone some hiccups. I have used the MOTO G5 Plus with the same processor and I had no complaints at all.
Let's talk about the cameras. At the back the phone has a dual camera setup with a 12 MP f/2.2 primary camera and a 5MP f/2.2 secondary camera (Depth sensing) for those lovely blurs. This camera is capable of shooting a 1080p@30 fps video with EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization). 4K video recording is missing though, a third party camera app such as Open Camera may help.
You also get to record time lapse & slow motion videos. Day light shots are really nice with great sharpness and details. Dynamic range is great too. HDR does a great job too in brining out highlights from the shadows. Night shots are soft and grainy. Even the manual mode does not give a lot of options to help here. Xiaomi is doing the right trick in getting the portrait mode click some really great blur shots in the business. we have seen this in the Note 5 Pro, Mi A2 and now the Redmi 6 Pro. They are simply brilliant. The front you get a 5 MP f/2.0 camera with the portrait mode that does well. It clicks good shots in good light and video recording maxs out at 1080p@30 fps.
Lets talk about gaming on the Redmi 6 Pro. I have played Asphalt 9 and PubG on this device. You get a see frame drops sometimes and games do just fine in medium graphic settings. While playing games I love the fact that battery lasted very long and that the screen is really nice and at the same
time that downward facing speaker sounds surprisingly loud and clear in fact it has a great depth to it.
A huge 4000 mAh battery coupled with the power efficiency of Snapdragon 625 will ensure a very long battery life even for the power users or media junkies. We get a 5V/2A usual chargers that tops up the battery in about 1 hr 30 mins. That's not bad at all considering that you will charge the phone once in 24hrs-48hrs.
