The much awaited Mi A3 by Xiaomi was unveiled today. The A-series is the only smartphone by Xiaomi that runs on the Android One program. The specification though disappointing hints that there could be a plus or a pro model that may show up later. For now, lets see what do we get with the Mi A3.
The model announced seems more like a lite version to me. It comes with a 6.1" OLED screen with 720x1560 pixel resolution. It's powered by the Snapdragon 665 processor that doesn't seem to be huge upgrade over the Snapdragon 660. The phone comes in 4GB/ 6GB of RAM and 64GB/ 128GB of storage options and what surprised me was the inclusion of a microSD card slot.
I am happy that few things that were expected were there in the specs sheet. Mi A3 comes with a triple camera setup on the back. It has a 48MP primary camera with f/1.75, an 8MP ultra wide-angle camera (118°) and a 2MP depth sensor. In the front the Mi A3 gets a 32MP selfie camera.
The next expected upgrade that was a huge battery. It gets a 4,030mAh battery with support for fast charging, however the box includes a 10W charger that's same as last year's Mi A2. I am happy to see the inclusion of a 3.5mm audio jack that was much desired by most of us. Mi A3 is up for pre-order in Spain and comes in various colours.
I am sure India should see a Pro version of the Mi A3 with beefed-up specs. In the mean while, we have some great smartsphones under Rs 20,000. Realme X, Realme 3 Pro, Vivo Z1 Pro, Redmi Note 7 Pro and Samsung's M & A series are some of the best options that could give the Mi A3 a tough competition, unless we get a Mi A3 Pro with Snapdragon 710/ 730 processor, 4/6/8 GB of RAM and 64/ 128GB of internal storage.
