The Samsung Galaxy S25 series has often played second fiddle to its S-series siblings. A recent report from Counterpoint Research highlighted just how much the Galaxy S24 Ultra dominated sales, claiming a staggering 52% of total sales, while the compact S24 captured 27%. In contrast, the Galaxy S24+ only mustered 21%. Not exactly what you'd call a showstopper, right?
Even with some solid upgrades from the S23+, like a shiny new LTPO display boasting QHD+ resolution, 12GB of RAM, and a slightly beefier battery, the S+ just hasn't managed to capture hearts the way its bigger brothers have.
But what’s in store for this year's model? Let’s dive into the exciting features we anticipate for the Samsung Galaxy S25+.
Mark Your Calendars: Coming Soon!
Get ready, tech enthusiasts! Samsung has officially set the date for its next Galaxy Unpacked event for January 22. Following the usual game plan, pre-orders will likely kick off the very next day, lasting for around two weeks, with open sales expected to begin on January 31.
Powerhouse Performance: Snapdragon 8 Elite
Rumour has it that the Exynos 2500 didn't meet Samsung's expectations, leading to a full switch to the Snapdragon 8 Elite across all Galaxy S25 models. This means that no matter where you are in the world, you’ll be powered by the latest and greatest.
Expect some efficient RAM to complement the new chipset, with the base configuration likely sticking to 12GB. Storage starts at 256GB, with a tempting 512GB option also on the table.
Sleeker Design, Same Power
Leaked information hints at a sleeker Galaxy S25+, measuring in at just 7.3mm thick and weighing 190g—a minor reduction from the S24+’s 7.7mm and 196g. One reassuring aspect? Despite this slimming down, the 4,900mAh battery and charging capabilities (45W wired and 15W wireless) remain unchanged. While that’s decent, competitors are stepping up their game with 5,500mAh and even 6,000mAh batteries. Plus, though Samsung is adopting the Qi2 standard, there's no word yet on faster charging speeds—still assuming 15W for now.
Display and Camera: Keeping It Familiar
The display department holds steady, featuring the same stunning 1440+ resolution and LTPO panel that debuted with the S24+. However, compared to the competition, Samsung’s camera setup is feeling a little dated. While the Ultra model is in for a camera upgrade, the S25+ will continue with the familiar 50+10+12MP configuration—hardly groundbreaking when you consider the advances from rivals like the iPhone 16 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro.
One UI 7: A New Look with AI Integration
Samsung is doubling down on AI in mobile, and the Galaxy S25 series is set to make waves. Users will enjoy the latest One UI, boasting a fresh design and innovative AI features. Existing S-series owners might have to brace themselves as “free” access may soon come to an end. New buyers can expect a complimentary subscription to Gemini Advanced for a limited time—what a perk!
The Curious Case of the Galaxy S25 Slim
Hold on - rumours are swirling about a tantalizing fourth addition to the Galaxy S25 lineup: the Galaxy S25 Slim. Expected to be even thinner at 6.5mm with enticing specs like a 6.66” display and a camera setup featuring a jaw-dropping 200MP main lens, this model might overshadow the S25+. So why would anyone opt for the S25+? Timing is one factor, with the Slim reportedly launching in May, but if the rumours hold true, the Slim may just be the standout choice.
As it stands, the future isn't looking too rosy for the S25+, especially given its predecessor’s modest 21% sales figure. Will it conquer the competition, or will it be left behind? Only time will tell!
